Introduction to Ethnobotany: Connecting to nature through medicinal and edible Australian Native Plants
Introduction to Ethnobotany: Connecting to Nature Through Native Edible and Medicinal Plants is a 60-minute hands-on workshop led by qualified ethnobotanist Jessica Moulynox. With nearly 20 years of experience in wild food foraging and a background in Environmental Science (majoring in Plant Biology and Indigenous Studies),
Jessica offers a rich, engaging session that reconnects people with the edible and medicinal plants of their local landscape. As our collective plant knowledge fades, this workshop invites participants to see, touch, taste, and learn about native species in a way that is fun, accessible, and deeply grounding.
Through interactive storytelling, sensory activities, and practical guidance, attendees will gain a deeper appreciation for Australian flora and its role in both botanical and ecological wellbeing. Participants will leave with a toolkit of skills for recognising and responsibly using local plants, along with a renewed sense of connection to Country.
Jessica’s workshops are inclusive, respectful of Indigenous ways of doing, and rooted in the belief that knowing our plants helps us belong more fully to place. This workshop is ideal for educators, gardeners, landcarers, creatives, and anyone seeking to engage more meaningfully with their environment.
