Ash Dargan

Ash Dargan is a Larrakia recording artist, storyteller, and adventurer from Darwin, NT. Recognised as one of Australia’s leading performers on the Yidaki, his evocative blend of Indigenous instrumental and world music has captivated audiences across the globe since 1996.

His international career began in 1995 through a collaboration with world music producer Jim Wilson, resulting in a PolyGram release that reached the US World Music Top 10.

Returning to Australia, Ash went on to record an acclaimed body of work with Indigenous Australia and Sony Records, later serving as a cultural ambassador for the Northern Territory throughout the 2000s with his multimedia storytelling show Territory.

He has received nominations at both the National Indigenous Music Awards (2000) and the Native American Music Awards (2008).

Ash’s artistry is rooted in the rhythmic soul of the Australian landscape, his performances reflecting a profound connection to culture, country, and spirit.

At Garden States, Ash will present In Reverence, a new musical work composed from the pulse of the natural world itself.

Each piece begins with field recordings from the landscape, with rhythms and melodies emerging from the sounds of wind, water, and life. The result is a living dialogue between music and environment, a reflection perfectly aligned with the ethos of the Garden States Conference.
