Sunprint Art 🌞
Let the sun be your paintbrush! In this magical art workshop, children will harness the power of sunlight to create beautiful botanical prints with leaves, flowers, and other natural treasures. Watch science and art combine right in front of your eyes.
Materials:
Cyanotype sunprint paper (Or dark construction paper)
Clear plastic or cardboard sheets to hold items down.
Leaves, feathers, flat flowers, grass etc.
Paper towels for drying
Weights like small stones to hold prints in place.
Optional: cardboard and glue to mount prints.
Intro: Explain how sunlight causes a reaction in the paper, leaving behind silhouettes.
Children collect flat natural items.
Children are given paper and arrange items into their desired design. Carefully place the clear cover on top to hold items still.
Sun exposure: Place the paper in full sunlight for 5 minutes (or until colour shifts).
Play nature guessing game or quiz while waiting.
Developing prints: Rinse the paper in water for cyanotype. Lay flat to dry on paper towel.
Optional: mount dried prints on carboard with glue.
